TxDMV Commercial Driverless Authorization Rules
Chapter 220 governs applications and the continuing authorization requirements for commercial driverless operations. Chapter 224, Subchapter H, addresses administrative action under Transportation Code sections 545.456 and 545.459. The paperwork-based process and the public-safety process have different procedures. The adopted rules took effect February 27, 2026, with compliance required May 28, 2026.
